
You are invited to Own Your Space, a powerful, community-based self defence workshop designed to build confidence, connection, and practical skills.
Own Your Space brings together women and gender-diverse people (18+) in a supportive environment focused on awareness, empowerment, and collective strength. This is more than a workshop, it is an opportunity to learn, connect, and leave feeling informed, grounded, and confident in your ability to take up space.
What to Expect
A 90-minute introduction to self defence basics in a welcoming, trauma-informed setting
Information on local support services and reporting options, presented by SASCWR and SPECTRUM
Opportunities to build meaningful community connections through Democracy in Action.
A focus on confidence, choice, and practical tools you can carry forward

Democracy in Action was created to strengthen civic engagement, support inclusive participation, and foster meaningful dialogue in our communities. This launch event will bring together community leaders, educators, residents, and elected officials to highlight the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening democracy at the local level.
The evening will feature opening remarks from Colleen James, Regional Councillor and Founder of Democracy in Action, as well as contributions from community voices and cultural performances.
